Playlist: Vividiva's butterfly claps; Junho's soft rock, Ladies' cha-cha-cha and Bay B's comeback

VIVIDIVA - Service

Maid outfits. Bunny ears. Could they be any more cliched? Probably. Still, Service is great. Butterfly handclaps and a whole lot of clipped syllables that rat-a-tat out in hushed harmonies: "Ser-vice! Ser-vice! Ser-vice, vice, vice, vice, vice" and "Hello cutie!" and "1-2-3-4 let's go!" It's fast and light. It's almost hypnotic and it has a kind of new wave vibe - a little like the B-52s unfairly maligned electronic album Whammy Kiss. Can't find many credits for the writer, Le Sehwan - the most high profile artist is K-Will - but as one twitterino put it: "What a bop!"

JUNHO - Fire

This passed by me without acknowledgement on various k-shows because 2PM's Junho, although pretty, appeared with no dancers, and because it's basically a soft rock song. But stick with it until the pre-chorus slides into a smoky soul-jazz jam, with seductive chord changes and brass and Junho switching from falsetto to croon "I like your eyes, I like your lips, I think you're thinking the same thing ..." Orly, Junho? Writing credits are Junho and JYP worker bee Hong Ji Sang, who wrote two of the beauties from the Wonder Girls' Reboot album, Baby Don't Play and John Doe, and is clearly a class act. Fire is a lesson in arranging, for starters. But it's a chock-full of hooks as well.

LADIES - She's So Pretty

Apparently this was inspired by departed Cuban great, pianist Ruben Gonzalez. The guiro works overtime as the lazy groove flirts with bossa nova then teeters on the verge of cha-cha-cha before a rock beat stomps all over it. Park Sung-Jun provides a smooth vocal.

PLAYBACK - I Wonder

The ladies keep channeling the '90s girl group vibe with great results. This track by Icelandic/Norwegian producers Element is less bass-heavy than the self-titled debut but no less delightful. From the live performances it seems like only one of them can sing in tune, but the one that can has a strong voice and with songs like these, who cares? There's a version with Eric Nam. Go nuts.

Sunny Days - Blah Blah

Mamamoo meet Spica on this single by Sunny Days. At least one of them has a strong, mature voice and the song is a big band old-school R&B number composed by BlueBridge Team who were behind My Name's quirky Too Very So Much. The ladies debuted in 2012 but have had numerous line-up changes. Not sure how many original members are left. A fancam of Soojung dancing in ill-fitting shorts has 80,000 views (and counting), so maybe the creeps can give them a hit.

HUS and Risso - Bargain Sale

This is a pretty straight bossa nova from Humming Urban Stereo. Taking their cue from Sergio Mendes who flirted with the moog in the early 70s, they juxtapose the acoustic Latin guitar and sweet female vocal with electronic blips and squelches.

Bay B - Fancy

Another nice track with lovely singing from this trio. It's a low-key jazzy number that isn't as addictive as Come to Mind but it's still pretty great. It's smartly arranged, with acoustic backing and the impressive vocals recorded intimately, then put right up front. Loses marks for an unnecessary rap that ruins the vibe.
